Lübeck Pilots preparing for Kamsarmax Bulk Carriers

This week marked the start of a simulation series of Lotsenbrüderschaft NOK ll/Kiel/Lübeck/Flensburg together with tug boat captains from BOLUDA Deutschland GmbH.

Until April 2026 all pilots assigned to the Travemünde pilot station and four captains from Boluda will have had the chance to participate.

In port study terms you have a navigable area, a reserve and a no go area. As there is the potential for ship sizes to increase, the reserve gets smaller. Therefore it is essential to train and identify key points in the manoeuvring strategy before these vessels arrive.

The VR simulator system from Morild Interaktiv AS provides a high-detail geo-database, ship models verified with sea trial data and accurate interaction effects.

Wilhelmsen Wlearn Academy

The new facility, officially opened by Group CEO Thomas Wilhelmsen, represents a significant investment in the professional development of Filipino seafarers. The Philippines is home to one of Wilhelmsen’s largest and most experienced seafaring communities, and this centre places high-impact training exactly where it matters most: close to the seafarers who form the backbone of global maritime operations.

Our collaboration with Wilhelmsen reflects a shared vision: empowering seafarers with accessible, realistic, and engaging training tools that strengthen safety and operational performance across the industry.

Hamburg Pilots update

In June earlier this year, we reported that the Hamburg Pilot Association were setting up hardware for their inhouse simulator center using the Morild Ship & Bridge simulator system. In late October they successfully conducted tests with Pilot cadets. Next step is full scale training.

The Morild Ship & Bridge simulator system together with a high quality and accuracy digital twin of the pilotage area, enables their organization to conduct high quality simulator training inhouse, increasing training volume and reducing cost at the same time.

Our client list is rapidly growing with more pilot organizations, training institutions, shipowners and operators from around the world. The feedback is incredible, and we will keep on pushing the boundaries of maritime simulator training!

Tugboat Captains ❤️Morild Ship & Bridge

Experienced tugboat captains in Germany—and around the world—praise the Morild Ship & Bridge simulator for realistic, high‑fidelity tug maneuvering training.

Combining physical azimuth control levers with immersive VR creates an optimal training environment: deep immersion plus the tactile feedback operators rely on when operating real vessels.

Several major tugboat operators worldwide have incorporated our simulator into their training programs.

The system supports both Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) and Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) tug configurations.

Our system also enables connected, multi‑participant training sessions so clients can work together in the same simulated environment—even when operating from different locations. Through secure internet connectivity, teams don’t need to travel to a central training center; they can join from their own bases. Many of our pilot‑organization clients now conduct joint simulation exercises with their respective tugboat operator companies this way—strengthening communication, coordination, and overall port safety.

CMA CGM Germany

Today CMAShips Germany GmbH visited the Kiel Pilots for VR Simulation training using our Morild Ship & Bridge simulator system.

Earlier this year Kiel Pilots ordered the simulator ship model for „CMA CGM Mermaid“ from us, and CMAShips Germany GmbH provided the technical specifications, so the simulator model could be tuned as close as possible according to sea trial data.

And today an experienced captain from CMA CGM was able to test the ship model. The feedback was that the model is accurate and very realistic, and that our simulator system is far superior to any conventional simulator systems available.

The detail of this ship model is next level. The bridge has been modeled after the actual vessel, to offer full immersion and maximum realism in the scenarios.

Together with our clients we are pushing the evolution of maritime training to the next level.

Welcome Aboard, Hamburg Pilot Association

We are proud to welcome the Hamburg Pilot Association as the latest partner to adopt the Morild Ship & Bridge simulator system. This marks the third major pilot organization in Germany to integrate Morild into their training regime.

Over the past year, the Hamburg pilots have been getting to know the simulator system, and they are now moving forward with assembling hardware for their new in-house simulator center.

As part of the collaboration, Morild Interaktiv has produced a high-detail geo-database based on official German datasets, covering all shorelines and inland canals throughout the country. The geo-database has been generated with our proprietary automated system, delivering the highest accuracy and visual quality available on the market. Advanced current and tidal modeling from offline datasets is also supported in the simulator system.

The Morild Ship & Bridge simulator system is approved by German authorities for maritime pilot training.

We look forward to continuing this exciting partnership — and to pushing maritime training to the next level.

Best BRM Training Yet? Norwegian Coastal Administration Thinks So

The Norwegian Coastal Administration’s pilot division recently completed Bridge Resource Management (BRM) training using the Morild Ship & Bridge VR simulator system with outstanding results.

State Pilot Inge Fagerheim described it as “the best cooperative training he has experienced in his entire maritime career”.

Fast Rescue Boat showcase

The above video showcases the fast rescue boat "RS 158 Idar Ulstein". All footage is captured in real time from inside our simulator system - this is what our users see inside VR when executing training scenarios. You will also get a glimpse of our proprietary automated geo-database generation system, which we have utilized to generate a digital model of Germany and Norway for use in the simulator system. The system has the capacity to generate any geo-location in the world.

Pilotage Resource Management

In the Kiel Canal, Germany the large vessels are getting the service of pilot advice as well as a canal helmsman, from Association of the Kanalsteurer e.V. Kiel Holtenau.

This cooperation is an essential element of the excellent safety record. The Kiel Canal Transit has several challenges due to the confined waters and the increasing ship dimensions. This exceeds the experience of most of the ships crew, which is why the canal helmsmen play an instrumental role.

This week the Kiel Pilots had their first training together with the Canal Helmsmen on the Morild Interaktiv shiphandling simulator system. The scenarios were designed to train various competencies like:

• Meeting ships between the sidings and in reduced visibility.

• Lock manoeuvres on large vessels and challenging wind directions.

• Stopping and overtaking manoeuvres in the canal sidings.

With the hydrodynamics and visual database providing a next-level training environment. The feedback from the experienced Canal Helmsmen and experienced pilot colleagues were very positive.

The simulator system’s innovative design enables users to collaborate in the same scenario from multiple locations - enhancing accessibility, increasing training capacity, and lowering costs. We are excited to see our system empowering our clients even further.
